Ultra-Stable TEC Oven

GENERAL INFORMATION

Nonlinear optical processes such as SHG, OPO, SPDC and SFG depend on phase matching, and phase matching depends on temperature. A drift of only 0.05 °C can shift the phase-matching peak, lowering conversion efficiency, broadening the linewidth and destabilizing the output wavelength.

The Ultra-Stable TEC Oven is built around a precision Peltier thermoelectric module and a PWM H-bridge controller. It holds the crystal within ±0.005 °C over 24 hours, giving it a stable thermal platform for consistent phase stability, wavelength stability and conversion efficiency.

APPLICATIONS

APPLICATION NOTES

Stabilizing PPLN for SHG at 1064 nm. PPLN crystals for 532 nm generation typically phase-match at 30–60 °C. Even a 0.1 °C excursion reduces SHG efficiency by several percent. Holding the crystal within ±0.01 °C keeps the green output power constant through the whole laser session.

Reducing thermal drift in OPO and SFG setups. Passive crystal mounts drift with the lab HVAC cycle, typically ±0.5 °C to ±2 °C over hours. The oven decouples the crystal from its environment, reducing the ambient influence 50–100 times, so the output wavelength stays stable through multi-hour measurements.

SPDC sources for entanglement experiments. Bell tests, quantum key distribution development and photon-pair spectroscopy all need a drift-free crystal. The oven's stability meets the demands of sensitive quantum optical setups.
